Satrupa is located in the most easterly part of Upper Assam. Major Robert Bruce came in 1823 with a platoon of soldiers to help the ethnic tribes fight against the Burmese slave traders. In gratitude for their help the Chief of the Singpho tribe gave Major Bruce a tea sapling that forms the basis of the present garden.
