Online Catalogue | Black teas
Grey's Ceylon Teas - Sri Lanka is acknowledged to produce some of the world's finest teas. Typically the tea has a small leaf producing clear, golden infusions. We have examples of the three main high grown varieties which are famous for the quality of their teas: mellow Uvas, full-bodied Dimbulas and delicate Nuwara Eliyas. We also have examples from smaller areas; Kandy and Dickoya.
Grey's India Teas - India produces almost entirely black teas but of immense variety. Light Darjeelings contrast with the strong malty Assams and the distinct but lesser known Nilgiris from the southern hills differ again.
Grey's China Teas - China is responsible for many of the world's finest teas, such as Keemun, many made by hand. Tea is grown in eighteen Chinese provinces, the most important being in the south east of the country. Yunnan is a temperate province acknowledged for its distinctive tea. Fujian Province is famous for its Lapsang Souchong. Other provinces reknown for their black teas are Anhui, Hunan and Sichuan.
Kenya started producing tea at the start of the 20th Century. Its potential and quality were soon recognised. The teas are bright and colourful with a reddish, coppery tint and a brisk flavour. The Dutch introduced tea to Indonesia four hundred years ago. The teas are characterised by their smoothness and lack of astringency. Picking is year round.
