A little about: Darjeeling Tea

Our range of Darjeeling Tea encompasses first and second flush teas noted for their briskness and smoothness respectively. The latter is particularly noted for its distinctive muscatel character.

Darjeeling tea is famous world-wide for its muscatel character and floral nose. They are justly known as the 'Champagne of teas'. Darjeeling lies at around 6000 ft in the southern foothills of the Himalayas. The climate is cool and misty bringing between nine and thirteen inches of rain during the monsoon season of June to September. Cultivated originally by British planters in the nineteenth century using cuttings from Chinese plants the Assam variety is used at lower altitudes. First Flush Darjeeling tea is picked in March to mid April. They are known for their briskness whilst being light and aromatic with that a muscatel taste. Second Flush Darjeelings are picked in May. They tend to be less brisk and more rounded but with a more apparent muscatel flavour.
